Powerheads generally fail for a reason, which can usually be traced back to the fuel or cooling system. It's important to locate and correct the problem before installing a new powerhead. You should replace the water pump, rebuild the carbs and inspect the entire fuel system when replacing a powerhead. Also be sure to follow the proper break-in procedure listed in your owner's manual.

Important Info
Always follow the correct break-in procedure when you rebuild a powerhead or install a new one. The procedure usually consists of doubling the oil for the first few tanks, varying the RPMs a lot and avoiding sustained wide-open throttle or heavy loads. Check your owner's manual or service manual for the specific procedure for your motor.
Be sure to inspect the entire system to find out why the original powerhead failed and correct it. Otherwise, the replacement unit will most likely fail as well. That's why it's a good idea to just go ahead and replace the water pump, as well as rebuild the carbs, as these are two of the most common causes of powerhead failures.
The value of your core is primarily based on the condition of your block and crank. You'll receive a core return label for sending your core back--do not return the core without the proper label.
